Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, may soon find himself in a smaller property if King Charles has his way.
The King is reportedly keen on having his younger brother vacate Royal Lodge and move into the vacant Frogmore Cottage, previously occupied by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The Duke of York’s association with convicted s** offender Geoffrey Epstein has caused significant fallout, leading to his forced resignation as a working member of the royal family.
Recent revelations related to the case have once again thrust this issue into the spotlight.
Last year, it was reported that King Charles desired Andrew’s departure from his Windsor mansion, with Frogmore Cottage being the preferred alternative after the Sussexes were evicted following the publication of Prince Harry’s memoir, “Spare.”
Meanwhile, there were rumors that Royal Lodge had been earmarked for Prince William and Princess Kate, who currently reside in Adelaide Cottage with their young children.
According to a source, the Waleses fully support Andrew’s eviction from his Windsor property in favor of Frogmore, despite his reluctance.
The source revealed that William and Kate have been actively seeking a larger residence to accommodate their growing household.
It seems the Waleses are finally taking steps to remove Andrew from the property, a decision that William and Kate wholeheartedly welcome and endorse.
Andrew was given the keys to Frogmore last year, as its smaller size aligns with his diminished royal status.
However, he has criticized the cottage, deeming it inadequate for his needs.
In the past, the palace intended to relocate Andrew from Royal Lodge to facilitate renovations and prepare the property for new occupants.
Nevertheless, Andrew staunchly refused, insisting on seeing out the remainder of his lease at Royal Lodge.
In 2003, Andrew signed a 75-year lease for the Windsor mansion, assuming responsibility for all refurbishments and maintenance costs.
However, last spring, the King reduced Andrew’s annual grant, raising concerns about his ability to afford the upkeep of his home.
While removing Andrew from the fold without demoting him or cutting off his funding won’t be easy, it appears to be the only viable solution.
The situation remains uncertain, but if King Charles has his way, Prince Andrew will soon bid farewell to Royal Lodge and settle into Frogmore Cottage.
