Prince George, the young heir to the British throne, has etched his name in history books by becoming the youngest future king to play a role in a coronation ceremony.
The nine-year-old prince took on the duty of a page at his grandfather King Charles III’s crowning event on Saturday.
Dressed in a striking red overcoat, George exuded maturity as he followed closely behind King Charles, holding onto the trailing end of his coat as they entered Westminster Abbey for the significant occasion.
Accompanying Prince George were his fellow pages, including Lord Oliver Chomderley, Master Nicholas Barclay, and Master Ralph Ptolemachy.
Each of them walked in procession behind the king, delicately holding sections of his majestic robe.
On the other hand, Camilla Parker Bowles was accompanied by her pages of honour – her grandsons Master Gus, Master Louis Lopez, and Master Freddie Parker Bowles, along with her great-nephew Master Arthur Elliot.
These young boys made their public debut by assisting Camilla with her royal robe as she made her way into the ceremony.
In anticipation of Prince George’s pivotal role, a spokesperson from Kensington Palace expressed great excitement, stating, “We are thrilled about Prince George’s involvement in the coronation.
It will be a truly momentous occasion.”
Prince William, George’s father and the Prince of Wales, also played a significant part in the ceremony by reciting the homage of the royal blood while kneeling before King Charles.
Notably, Prince Harry, Charles’ other son, did not have an official role in the proceedings but was present despite ongoing family tensions.
While Prince Harry attended the coronation, his wife Meghan Markle opted to stay in Montecito, California, with their two children – son Archie, who celebrated his fourth birthday on the day of the coronation, and daughter Lilibet I.
The ceremony, held at Westminster Abbey on May 6, solidified Charles’ position as the head of the Church of England and marked the transfer of his title and authority.
During the coronation, Charles was adorned with the St. Edward’s crown, a magnificent piece dating back to the 17th century, weighing nearly five pounds and adorned with a solid gold frame and 444 precious stones.
The day held special significance for Camilla as well, as she was anointed and crowned as Queen, making her the first divorcee to receive such an honor.
The coronation invitation, released in April, grabbed headlines for referring to her as Queen Camilla for the first time, departing from her previous title of Queen Consort.
While the actual anointment was not televised, viewers had access to a plethora of special programming and live coverage of the ceremony starting at 5 am ET on CBS and Paramount Plus.
Additionally, audiences could tune in to CBS News for exclusive content, including a concert featuring renowned artists Katy Perry and Lionel Richie on May 7.
As the royal events unfolded, spectators were invited to witness the coronation online through various streaming platforms.
