In a significant turn of events, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis have acquired new surnames following King Charles’ recent speech.
Coinciding with their great-grandmother, the Queen’s unfortunate passing, the royal children have also commenced their education at Lamerick School this week.
As a result, they are expected to undergo a transition in their titles.
Prince William and his wife Kate will now be referred to as the Prince and Princess of Wales, superseding their previous designations as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Similarly, their children will also bear the title of Wales.
Traditionally, members of the royal family do not utilize last names, relying instead on their titles when necessary, such as for official documentation like school registers.
During their time at school, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis were registered as George Cambridge, Charlotte Cambridge, and Louis Cambridge, respectively.
However, this nomenclature will now be replaced with Wales.
This alteration is not limited to the immediate family.
Charles has assumed the title of King Charles III, while his wife, Camilla, is now known as the Queen Consort.
Furthermore, it is anticipated that Prince Edward, Charles’ younger brother, will inherit their father’s prestigious title as the Duke of Edinburgh.
With the recent passing of Her Majesty, questions have arisen regarding the attendance of the young children at their great-grandmother’s funeral.
Although they did not attend the funeral of their great-grandfather, Prince Philip, earlier this year due to the strict phase 2 coronavirus restrictions in the United Kingdom, it is likely that many of the Duke’s great-grandchildren would have been present had there been no such limitations.
