Prince George, the eldest child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, is gearing up to celebrate his seventh birthday on July 22nd.
However, this year, there is one tradition that the young royal will unfortunately miss out on.
Typically, certain royal birthdays and anniversaries are commemorated with the ringing of bells at Westminster Abbey.
This includes significant dates for the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, their children, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their children.
Regrettably, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, bell ringing at the Abbey has been suspended and is not expected to resume until August.
Consequently, Prince George will not have the opportunity to partake in this customary practice.
This isn’t the first time that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s children have been unable to hear the bells ring on their special days.
Princess Charlotte, who turned five in May, and Prince Louis, who celebrated his second birthday in April, also missed out on this tradition.
Looking ahead, the next royal to receive this honor will be the Princess Royal, who will turn 70 on August 15th, according to Westminster Abbey’s website.
Westminster Abbey holds a significant place in history, having hosted some of the most momentous royal events.
This includes the Queen’s Coronation in 1953, as well as the weddings of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip in 1947, Princess Margaret and Anthony Armstrong Jones in 1960, Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips in 1973, and Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011.
Furthermore, members of the royal family, such as the Prince of Wales, the Princess Royal, and the Countess of Wessex, have taken part in Westminster Abbey’s podcast series, Abbeycast, during the lockdown period.
Since the UK lockdown was implemented in March, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, along with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, have been residing at their Norfolk home, Anmer Hall.
The royal children, who typically attend Thomas’s Battersea School, have been receiving homeschooling from their parents.
Additionally, it is worth noting that Kate has assumed the role of official portrait photographer for her children since Princess Charlotte’s birth in 2015.
To celebrate his second birthday in April, Prince Louis was captured on camera engaging in a messy painting session with rainbow-colored paint.
