Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly considering a new deal with Paramount, as their current contract with Netflix is set to expire in 2025.
While there is no confirmation yet on whether Netflix will renew the contract, experts believe that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are exploring other options.
Royal expert Angela Levin has dismissed the rumors of their alleged flirtation with Paramount as inaccurate.
She pointed out that the couple attended the premiere of the new Bob Marley biopic, “One Love,” in Jamaica last week, alongside Paramount CEO Brian Robbins and his wife Tracey James.
Levin clarified that Harry and Meghan’s presence at the event was due to their friendship with Robbins and James, who had invited them to stay at a luxury resort in Montego Bay.
Levin expressed her skepticism about the couple’s loyalty to Netflix, stating, “What they are showing is that they are not loyal to Netflix because they are still Netflix subscribers.
I was loyal to the Royal Family; they were brutal, that’s family.
If they want to move to Paramount, they shouldn’t have that kind of exposure, it’s very inaccurate.”
She also emphasized that whoever offers the most lucrative deal will likely secure their services, but it should not be flaunted to the world.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams agreed that a deal between the Sussexes and Paramount is a possibility, given that their partnership with Netflix has not been as successful as anticipated.
He noted that their collaboration with Netflix only resulted in a widely-watched documentary about Harry and Meghan, which did not reach the core audience of Invictus.
Fitzwilliams questioned what the couple could offer Paramount, as they have not produced any substantial content thus far.
There have been rumors that Netflix may not renew its contract with Archul Productions, the production company established by Harry and Meghan in 2020.
The company aims to create educational and inspirational programming.
While they have released projects such as “Harry and Meghan and the Heart of Invictus” and “Live to Lead,” the response has been mixed, and no further releases have been confirmed.
Losing Harry and Meghan to Netflix would be a blow for the streaming giant, especially after the couple ended their partnership with Spotify last summer, having produced only one season of Meghan’s podcast, “Archewell Audio.”
Additionally, Bennett Levin, the boss of Archul Productions, recently stepped down from his position, becoming the 17th employee to leave the company since Harry and Meghan’s marriage in 2018.
Despite the uncertainties, Fitzwilliams cautioned against ruling out Harry and Meghan, as they are known for their unpredictability and penchant for surprises.
It remains to be seen whether Paramount will secure a deal with the royal couple, but their potential departure from Netflix suggests that they are exploring new opportunities in the entertainment industry.
