In a scathing review of the royal family, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been labeled as the relegate royals of Montecito.
The couple made headlines in 2020 when they stepped back from their senior roles in the royal family and relocated to the United States.
Now, broadcaster and columnist Esther Krakow has shared her insights on the couple’s life within the firm in 2023, shedding light on some key events that unfolded this year.
During an interview with Sky News host Caroline de Russo, Krakow discussed how 2023 kicked off with the publication of Prince Harry’s memoir, “Spare.”
This book, along with the Netflix documentary and the infamous Oprah Winfrey interview, showcased the Sussexes’ continuous grievances and allegations against the royal family.
The South Park episode that followed further mocked the couple, highlighting their global privacy tour.
It has undeniably been a rollercoaster year, but Krakow admits that reporting on the royal family, even on the relegate royals of Montecito, has been both an honor and an enjoyable experience.
Interestingly, it has recently been revealed that Prince Harry will be absent from the royal family’s coronation documentary, despite his earlier presence.
Krakow expressed no surprise at his absence, stating that he was not featured in the coronation at all.
She also mentioned that Prince Harry’s decision to stay in California with his wife and children, despite insisting on giving his kids the Prince and Princess titles, was not the focus of the documentary.
Instead, the BBC1 documentary, aired on Boxing Day, offered fans a behind-the-scenes look at the rehearsals for King Charles III’s coronation.
While the Prince and Princess of Wales, along with their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, were prominently featured, Prince Harry was nowhere to be seen.
In May, he attended the event at Westminster Abbey alone, while Meghan remained in their Montecito home.
Critics have voiced their disappointment with the BBC for not addressing the various issues that have plagued the royal family this year, including the accusations made by the Sussexes and biographer Omid Scobie.
The documentary did, however, include clips of Prince Charles and Queen Camilla at Balmoral, providing a glimpse into their preparations for the event.
As the year comes to a close, it is evident that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s journey as the relegate royals of Montecito has been filled with ups and downs.
