Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who relocated from the UK to the US earlier this year, are unlikely to join the Royal Family at Sandingham country retreat for their first Christmas without Queen Elizabeth.
This move comes after they gave up their positions as working members of the Royal Family when they moved to the US.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were last seen in public together in the UK in September, attending charity functions and the Queen’s burial.
There were rumors that King Charles had invited them to spend Christmas at Sandingham, but it now appears unlikely that they will make the journey across the Atlantic.
A source close to the King has indicated that they are unlikely to attend.
Following the passing of Queen Elizabeth on September 8th at her Balmoral estate in Scotland, her eldest son Charles took over as the new King.
This will be the first time he hosts both the Christmas holiday and the traditional Royal Family get-together at Norfolk country estate.
The Prince and Princess of Wales, along with their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, will be residing at Ember Hall in Norfolk, which was a gift from the Queen.
During Christmas morning, the King and his wife, the Queen Consort, are expected to be accompanied by several other members of the Royal Family as they walk to the church.
Since 1988, the Royal Family has celebrated Christmas and the New Year at Sandingham.
However, due to the recent COVID outbreak, the annual ritual has had to be modified in recent years.
This year, the Royal Family is anticipated to gather for their first Christmas together after the Queen’s passing at the Norfolk estate.
However, the celebration will take place a little over two weeks before the release of Prince Harry’s upcoming book, titled “Spare,” which is set to be published on January 10th, 2023.
The book, published by Penguin Random House, promises to reveal Prince Harry’s journey from hardship to recovery with honesty and sincerity.
The cover of the book has already sparked interest, featuring a portrait of Prince Harry gazing directly into the camera.
The title “Spare” references the phrase “heir and spare.”
However, it seems that King Charles is not particularly enthusiastic about his son’s latest literary endeavor.
Royal biographer Christopher Anderson suggests that the King views Prince Harry’s account as a betrayal.
This sentiment may also extend to previous public remarks made by Meghan Markle about the Royal Family.
