The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, have received an invitation to King Charles’ coronation in May, according to a spokeswoman for the couple.
However, they have not confirmed whether they will attend the event.
This uncertainty has raised questions about their relationship with the royal family.
Expert Kinsley Schofield believes that the couple’s absence could be seen as a form of punishment towards the royal family.
In an interview with Express, Schofield suggested that Harry and Meghan may be using the coronation as an opportunity to express their dissatisfaction.
She stated, “I don’t think we will see either one at the coronation.
I think that’s their way of punishing the royal family.”
However, Schofield also acknowledged that there may be some who are not eager to see the couple at the coronation.
Since stepping down as working royals in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have experienced a significant decline in support both in the UK and the US.
Their recent endeavors, such as the release of the documentary “Harry and Meghan” on Netflix and Prince Harry’s memoir “Spare,” have been met with intense criticism from the public.
Schofield revealed that the couple had been working on their PR strategy even before leaving the royal family but were now forced to reconsider due to the negative reception.
She commented, “They’ve been strategizing this escape.
They’ve been strategizing this brand build since before they officially left the royal family.
It’s blown up in their face.
It’s backfired.
And what we’re seeing now are consequences of some really poor decisions.”
Schofield also noted that King Charles had previously given his son the benefit of the doubt but might now have to take a firmer stance to protect the royal family.
She described Charles as “notoriously soft-hearted, especially when it comes to Prince Harry.”
However, she suggested that the King could adopt a similar approach used with the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, who were mostly kept apart from the royal family after the abdication of King Edward in 1936.
King George attempted to maintain a connection with his brother by assigning him various roles, but ultimately, their relationship was limited to family occasions.
Schofield speculated that King Charles might take inspiration from this precedent and distance himself from Harry and Meghan.
“What I’m seeing right now is Charles looking at the way Wallace and Edward were handled and saying, you know what, that might be the right way to go,” she said.
“We’re going to distance ourselves, we’re not going to give them a platform through us.”
The uncertainty surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s attendance at King Charles’ coronation has sparked curiosity among royal watchers.
It remains to be seen whether the couple will make an appearance, and their decision could have significant implications for their relationship with the royal family.
