The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, may never be able to recover professionally from their numerous setbacks, according to a prominent royal commentator.
In a scathing critique, Bill Simmons, Spotify’s Head of podcast innovation and monetization, referred to the couple as “fucking grifters.”
Simmons expressed regret over not being involved in the negotiation process with Harry and Meghan, stating that their podcast deal was a missed opportunity.
He even shared an anecdote about a Zoom call he had with Prince Harry to help him brainstorm podcast ideas, but now feels contempt towards them.
Tom Bauer, author of the book Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors, concurred with Simmons’ assessment, claiming that the couple’s recent failures have left a lasting stain on their reputation.
He specifically mentioned the collapse of their highly publicized £18 million Spotify podcast, which was abruptly terminated after just 12 episodes due to concerns over their lack of productivity.
Bauer also highlighted the diminishing value of the couple’s endorsements, which has contributed to their financial woes.
According to Bauer, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are rapidly running out of viable employment options.
He emphasized that their endorsements no longer hold much value, leading to a significant financial predicament.
However, Bauer did suggest that Meghan’s potential gold mine could be her autobiography.
He believes that her vivid imagination and storytelling abilities could generate substantial income for her.
As the couple looks to start afresh in 2024, they faced further criticism from Joe Coy, the host of the Golden Globe Awards on January 7.
Coy took a jab at the couple’s commercial failures, joking that they were paid millions for doing nothing, particularly by Netflix.
He also couldn’t resist poking fun at Prince Harry, mentioning his call to actress Imelda Staunton, who portrayed the Queen in “The Crown,” asking her for money.
Despite the ongoing controversies and setbacks, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were not present at the red carpet event.
It remains to be seen how they will navigate their tarnished professional reputation and find new opportunities moving forward.
