Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were noticeably absent from the Golden Globes, and their absence did not go unnoticed.
During the awards ceremony, SNL host Michael Che took the opportunity to mock Prince Harry, referring to him as “Satan.”
The couple has been facing constant negative press, with their popularity seemingly dwindling in the United States.
The mockery of the Sussexes began when comedian Joe Coy made jokes about their lucrative contracts.
In 2023, the couple lost their Spotify deal, and one of the company’s executives branded them as grifters.
According to a Royal Expert, the continuous negative attention they receive is a clear sign of their declining popularity.
Phil Dampier, speaking on GB News, said, “‘When you start to become figures of ridicule, you’re in trouble.
When they first went out there, they were popular.'”
Not only were they mocked during the Golden Globes, but the duo also faced ridicule from popular shows like South Park and Family Guy.
The commentator added, “‘Everyone’s just regarding them as figures of fun.
And I think this year, it’s gonna be a real turning point for them.
Unless they pull something out of the bag, they’re in for a bit of a nosedive.'”
PR expert Maya Riaz believes that Meghan and Harry should expect to be the b*tt of jokes, especially after last year’s encounters with Family Guy and South Park.
She stated, “‘Harry and Meghan have sadly had many jokes made about them since leaving the Royal Family.
Unfortunately, this is something they would have had to have gotten used to.'”
Joe Coy, the comedian who hosted the Golden Globes, made jokes about Taylor Swift, Succession Barbie, and Oppenheimer.
PR expert Ryan McCormick noted that the fact that Coy felt compelled to mention the ex-royals indicates their continued relevance.
He added, “‘Because of a lack of action and because, to my knowledge, we don’t hear Meghan and Harry refuting any of the criticism lobbied at them, their time in the spotlight diminishes with each passing day.'”
Prince Harry’s latest mockery came during a Saturday Night Live sketch about the British Royal Family.
Michael Che, alongside James Austin Johnson and Devon Walker, played two British rappers named Milly Pounds and Shirty.
Che asked them for an update on the Royal Family, to which Austin, as Milly Pounds, responded, “‘All the focus is on the royals, right?
When it should be on Britain’s exploitative tabloid press.
It’s pants, mate.
It’s rubbish.’
He then added, “‘They’re mean to our boy Harry, alright?
We know what really goes down.
We’ve known Harry since our days at Eton.'”
Austin proceeded to rap, “‘Prince Harry, Prince Harry, stayed over at Tyler Perry’s.
Press called like Ben and Jerry’s.
I’m allergic to dairy.'”
Walker, as Shirty, chimed in with, “‘Harry and Meghan, Ronald Reagan, interracial dating.’
Queen said, “‘Not today, Satan.'”
The reference to interracial dating stems from Meghan Markle’s claims during her Oprah Winfrey interview in March 2021.
She accused an unnamed royal family member of expressing concerns about how dark their unborn child’s skin might be.
Despite the mockery, it is evident that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle still hold a certain level of relevance.
However, if they do not take action or address the criticism, their time in the spotlight may continue to diminish.
The couple will need to navigate these challenges and find a way to regain their popularity if they wish to remain in the public’s favor.
