Late night host Jimmy Fallon couldn’t resist taking a jab at Prince Harry after his revealing interview with Anderson Cooper on 60 Minutes.
The Duke of Sussex has been in the spotlight, promoting his memoir “Spare,” and has been openly critical of the British royal family in recent interviews with Oprah Winfrey and in the Netflix docu-series “Harry and Meghan.”
Fallon seized the opportunity to poke fun at the couple’s penchant for sharing personal details during the opening monologue on Monday’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
During Prince Harry’s 60-minute interview with Anderson Cooper, Fallon playfully referenced the Prince’s ginger hair and Cooper’s distinct white hair, drawing a parallel to the popular book series “A Song of Fire and Ice” by George R.R.
Martin, which inspired the HBO series “Game of Thrones.”
Fallon quipped that the interview was a great chance for viewers to hear Harry and Meghan’s story, in case they had missed their two-hour sit-down interview with Oprah or the six-part Netflix documentary.
Fallon’s jests didn’t stop there.
He also alluded to Meghan Markle’s desire to appear on The Tonight Show, recalling a confusing incident in November when NBC mistakenly announced that Markle would be a guest on the show.
However, the announcement was later retracted, and it was confirmed that Markle’s appearance was not scheduled.
Omid Scobie, a representative for Meghan, took to Twitter to deny the claim, expressing frustration over the miscommunication.
This blunder by NBC is not the first time Meghan’s plans to appear on The Tonight Show have been disrupted.
In September, she canceled her appearance following the Queen’s death, as she and Prince Harry were planning to attend the UN General Assembly in Manhattan on the same day.
Both appearances were subsequently canceled.
While Meghan has faced her fair share of outlandish rumors in the past, one particular claim made during a 2018 appearance on The Tonight Show stands out.
Actor Paul Bettany jokingly suggested that Meghan Markle might be a sleeper agent for the US government, pointing to her father’s controversial actions before her wedding as evidence.
Bettany playfully suggested that the CIA and Piers Morgan may be involved in the conspiracy.
It seems that Fallon is not the only American media personality taking a light-hearted approach to Prince Harry.
Last week, Jimmy Kimmel recreated the alleged fight between Prince Harry and Prince William in a sketch titled “Two Princes,” with the brothers dressed up as the singer Prince.
Prince Harry’s recent interviews have undoubtedly stirred up controversy and garnered attention from all corners.
While some may find his candidness refreshing, others worry that he risks being seen as an international laughingstock.
As the Duke of Sussex continues to share his story, it remains to be seen how his revelations will be received by the public.
