Experts now suggest that it is highly unlikely for him to resume his duties or maintain a close relationship with the king or his brother, Prince William.

Drawing parallels between Prince Harry and his granduncle Edward VIII, author Jane Marguerite Tippett points out that the Duke will not enjoy the same historical significance as the former king.

Unlike Edward VIII, who held the title of Prince of Wales for 25 years and reigned as king-emperor, Prince Harry’s tenure as a working royal was relatively short, lasting only about five years.

Tippett emphasizes that Prince Harry’s fame predominantly stems from his association with the royal family, and as he distances himself further from the institution, his relevance and popularity are likely to wane.

She asserts that his importance is derived from his connection to the monarchy, and without it, he will gradually lose significance.

Tippett further draws parallels between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s life outside the monarchy and the experiences of Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson.

Both couples attempted to negotiate a half-in-half-out arrangement with the royal family, and both Prince Harry and Edward swiftly secured lucrative book deals.

In January, the Duke of Sussex released his memoir, “Spare,” which stirred controversy due to the multiple allegations he made against senior royals.

Similarly, Edward VIII, later known as the Duke of Windsor, penned his autobiography in 1947.

Tippett, having utilized the Duke’s writings, recently published a new memoir.

However, she highlights a significant difference between Prince Harry and Edward’s accounts of the royal family, noting that Edward was careful not to portray his material as malicious or vengeful.

As Prince Harry’s return to the royal sphere becomes increasingly unlikely, his future within the institution grows dimmer.

The fleeting nature of his royal career, coupled with his separation from the monarchy, suggests a diminishing role for the Duke of Sussex.

While Edward VIII’s significance waned over time, Prince Harry’s brief tenure as a working royal may result in an even swifter decline in importance.
