Prince Joachim of Denmark has revealed his plans to leave France next summer, marking the end of his contract as a defence attaché at the Danish Embassy in Paris.
In an interview with Danish magazine BuildBladet, Prince Joachim expressed his excitement about the future and his contributions to the industrial collaboration between Denmark and France in the defence sector.
During the Space Innovation event in Toulouse, organized by the Danish Embassy in France, Prince Joachim took the opportunity to reflect on his time in the country.
He acknowledged the importance of being able to communicate fluently in French and adapt to the language’s nuances, which has allowed him to excel in his role as a defence attaché.
However, he also admitted that there have been moments lost in translation.
Prince Joachim’s departure from France will mark the end of an era.
He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to promote the collaboration between Denmark and France in the defence industry, emphasizing his commitment to continue supporting this dynamic as long as he remains in his current position.
When asked about his plans after leaving France, Prince Joachim remained tight-lipped, simply stating, “We will see.”
This leaves the question of where he, his wife Marie, and their two youngest sons, Henrik and Athena, will settle next open-ended.
The announcement made by Queen Margaret II in September, regarding the withdrawal of princely titles from Joachim’s four sons on January 1, 2023, caused significant tensions within the royal family.
In a statement, the Queen acknowledged that she underestimated the emotional impact this decision had on her youngest son and those close to him.
As Prince Joachim and Marie prepare to bid farewell to France, their departure marks the end of a chapter for the Danish royal family.
The future remains uncertain, but their contributions to the Danish-French defence collaboration will be remembered.
