New documents have emerged suggesting that Prince Philip, the late Duke of Edinburgh, held a negative opinion of Meghan Markle, referring to her as the second Wallace Simpson and warning Queen Elizabeth II about her.
In a book by Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, it is revealed that Prince Philip saw similarities between Meghan and Wallace Simpson, the Duchess of Windsor.
The book, titled “My Mother and I,” explores Queen Elizabeth II’s relationship with her son, King Charles III.
According to Seward, Prince Philip’s reservations about Meghan were evident from the moment he detected her resemblance to Wallace Simpson.
He consistently referred to her as the Duchess of Windsor.
In contrast, Queen Elizabeth II developed a liking for Meghan after meeting her over tea at Buckingham Palace in 2017.
The Queen not only liked her, but also had high hopes for the positive impact Meghan, as an American actress, could have alongside Prince Harry for the youth of the Commonwealth.
While the Queen supported Harry’s relationship with Meghan, Prince Philip urged caution.
He remarked to the Queen that Meghan reminded him uncannily of the disruptive force that Wallace Simpson had been within the royal family.
Wallace Simpson, a glamorous American divorcee, was the reason behind King Edward VIII’s abdication of the throne in 1936.
Edward, later known as the Duke of Windsor, fell in love with Simpson, but couldn’t marry her due to the Church of England’s prohibition on remarriage while one’s ex-spouse was still alive.
Prince Philip’s opinion of Meghan remained unchanged over time.
He seemed to possess a keen ability to see through people, particularly those he perceived as fake.
In contrast, the Queen appeared more easily susceptible to deception.
Queen Elizabeth II rarely voiced her true opinion about Meghan, confiding only in her closest confidants such as Lady Elizabeth Anson, a cousin who spoke with the monarch daily.
Lady Elizabeth revealed that the Queen made only one comment about Meghan and Harry’s wedding, expressing her view that the bride’s Givenchy wedding gown was too white for a divorcee remarrying in church.
Following Prince Philip’s suggestion, the Queen ordered MI5 to investigate Meghan’s past.
The palace subsequently covered up her profiles due to concerns for Harry’s well-being.
In her later years, the Queen even referred to Meghan as “evil.”
Prince Philip’s discernment extended to Prince Harry as well, which may explain why there is little mention of him from Harry’s side.
It is worth noting that Harry sold the antique guns left to him by Prince Philip, allegedly at Markle’s urging.
These revelations shed light on the complex dynamics within the royal family and the differing opinions held by its members.
While the Queen saw potential in Meghan, Prince Philip remained skeptical, drawing comparisons to a historical figure who had caused significant upheaval.
The extent to which these opinions influenced the subsequent events surrounding Harry and Meghan’s departure from royal duties remains a subject of speculation.
