Prince William has taken on a significant role in the state visit as he warmly greets the Emperor of Japan.
The Prince of Wales, representing his father King Charles, initiated the Emperor and Empress of Japan’s official visit to the UK on Tuesday, June 25.
Dressed elegantly in a black morning suit paired with a striking red tie, Prince William exchanged handshakes with Emperor Nahito and Empress Masako during their morning encounter before a packed schedule of engagements.
Following the cordial meeting, Prince William accompanied the royal guests to Horse Guards Parade in London for a ceremonial welcome alongside King Charles and Queen Camilla.
This is not the first time Prince William has led such a royal reception; back in November 2023, he and his wife, Kate Middleton, extended a similar warm welcome during the state visit of the President of South Korea.
On this occasion, however, Prince William stood alone in his duties as Princess Catherine continues her treatment for cancer.
Despite making a public appearance at Trooping the Colour on June 15 after a six-month absence, Princess Catherine’s return did not signify a full resumption of royal duties.
In a personal message shared on June 14, she revealed that she has begun some work from home and expressed a desire to participate in a few public events over the summer.
However, any forthcoming appearances will be dependent on her well-being and medical advice.
