Amidst the anticipation surrounding King Charles’ upcoming coronation, a source reveals that Prince William would rather have his brother, the Duke of Sussex, absent from the historic event.
Despite differences and controversies surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s attendance, the Prince of Wales and King Charles have grown closer, according to a close friend of the royal family.
While Prince William respects his father’s decision, he secretly hopes that his brother would be present on May 6.
The strained relationship between the two brothers has been a topic of discussion for years, with recent months seeing them level allegations and accusations against each other.
The Duke of Sussex has made various claims against members of the royal family, including accusing Prince William of physically attacking him during a heated discussion about the future of the Sussexes.
Additionally, he has criticized his father, King Charles, for lacking emotion and depicted Camilla, the Queen Consort, as a villain.
Responding to the portrayal of King Charles as an obstacle to Prince William’s desires, a friend of the Prince of Wales states that William is known for being strong-minded, determined, and unafraid to express his opinions.
However, he also holds deep respect for the hierarchy and will ultimately comply with his father’s wishes.
Their bond has never been stronger.
Reports suggest that King Charles has sought the assistance of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, to mediate a resolution regarding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s presence at the coronation.
Recent YouGov polling indicates that 43% of Britons surveyed believe Harry and Meghan should be invited, while 39% disagree.
However, an earlier ITSO survey conducted for the Evening Standard revealed that a majority of Britons want Harry to attend, with 60% of respondents supporting his inclusion.
The strain between Harry and William reportedly began in 2016 when the older prince expressed concerns about the rapid development of his younger brother’s relationship with Meghan Markle.
This led to a series of conflicts, including a fallout during Christmas in 2018 when Harry accused William of not doing enough to include Meghan in the royal family.
In 2020, the brothers released a joint statement addressing reports of bullying between them, emphasizing their commitment to mental health and condemning the use of inflammatory language.
Although a show of unity was displayed at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, where King Charles, Prince William, and Prince Harry walked together behind the late monarch’s coffin, tensions resurfaced in December.
Harry claimed that William shouted at him during the Sandringham Summit, and in his memoir, “Spare,” he alleged that William physically attacked him in 2019.
Despite ongoing tensions and diverging opinions, the future of the monarchy remains uncertain as the coronation approaches in May.
The royal family’s fate hangs in the balance.
