Prince William, the future king of England, has revealed his passion for football during a recent conversation with ex-England striker Luther Blissett.
Blissett had the opportunity to chat with the prince as he received an obe at Windsor Castle.
According to Blissett, William disclosed that he still plays 11-a-side football and even expressed interest in joining the Watford former players club.
Blissett shared, “I did ask him if he would come join us on Watford former players club and he said yes, he’d love to.
He said he was playing football last week and he said he couldn’t walk for the week afterwards.”
It seems that Prince William’s dedication to the sport leaves him feeling the physical effects of his intense matches.
It is no secret that Prince William is a devoted football fan.
Since 2006, he has held the role of president of the Football Association, taking over from his uncle, Prince Andrew.
He regularly attends football matches and supports Aston Villa, demonstrating his genuine love for the sport.
In fact, he even made an appearance at the Women’s Euros Finals in 2022.
The prince’s enthusiasm for football extends to his children as well.
Princess Charlotte recorded a heartwarming message in support of the Lionesses ahead of the Euros final.
And after the match, Prince William surprised the players by hugging each Lioness, celebrating their victory with them.
He emphasized that football has played a significant role in forming some of his closest friendships.
During a conversation with Harry Kane and Declan Rice in November 2022, Prince William reminisced about his youth and the friendships he forged through the game.
He stated, “Some of the greatest friendships are born from playing games and being pushed together inside adversity.”
He even recalled playing four simultaneous games of football with around 60 pupils using multiple balls.
The sheer joy and camaraderie of those moments left a lasting impression on him.
Prince William’s passion for football has not come without its fair share of challenges.
In recent years, he has been on the receiving end of four tackles, including a memorable wipeout by “I’m a Celebrity” star Jill Scott.
Scott humorously shared the story on her BBC podcast, Jill Scott Coffee Club, revealing that it happened during a charity event about ten years ago.
She playfully slide tackled the prince, leaving him momentarily stunned.
As news of Prince William’s football skills circulates, many wonder if his extraordinary talent and down-to-earth nature make him one of the great future kings of the monarchy.
