Prince William and Kate Middleton, known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, hold numerous titles and honours within the royal family.
However, there is one prestigious honour that Prince William has yet to receive, a personal accolade bestowed by the monarch themselves.
This honour, which recognizes personal service, has been granted to both Princess Kate and Prince Harry by the late Queen Elizabeth.
In 2015, Queen Elizabeth appointed Prince Harry as the Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO), and four years later, Kate Middleton was named a Dame Grand Cross of the Order.
The significance of this honour was highlighted when the Duke of Sussex was seen wearing the Cross of the Royal Victorian Order at the Queen’s State Funeral last year.
Both Prince Harry and Princess Kate were recognized for their services to the Sovereign, joining a distinguished lineage of royals who have received this esteemed honour.
Notably, Prince William is yet to receive this honour, unlike his brother and sister-in-law.
The Royal Victorian Order, established by Queen Victoria in 1996, acknowledges personal service to the Sovereign.
As the future monarch, Prince William will eventually become part of this Order when he ascends to the throne, a position currently held by King Charles.
While Prince William awaits this prestigious honour, he holds other significant titles.
He is a Royal Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, the most senior order of knighthood in Britain, and a Knight of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle, the highest order in Scotland.
Given his position as second in line to the throne, Prince William’s rank surpasses that of both Kate and Prince Harry.
Following his appointment as Prince of Wales last year, there have been changes to some of Prince William’s titles and honours.
Kate Middleton succeeded him as Colonel of the Irish Guards in December 2022, while he assumed the role of Colonel to the Welsh Guards.
Expressing his fondness for Wales, Kensington Palace confirmed that the Prince and Princess will be actively engaging with communities across the country in the coming months and years.
As the royal family continues to navigate their roles and responsibilities, the distribution of titles and honours reflects the evolving dynamics within the monarchy.
While Prince William awaits the prestigious Royal Victorian Order honour, he remains dedicated to his duties and engagements, alongside the Duchess of Cambridge.
