Princess Anne, the daughter of the late Queen, has expressed her gratitude and pride in being able to accompany her mother on her final journeys.
In a heartfelt statement, she described it as an honor and privilege to have shared the last 24 hours of her dearest mother’s life.
The Princess Royal also reflected on the love and respect shown to the Queen during her journey from Balmoral to Edinburgh and then on to London, which she found both humbling and uplifting.
Anne took the opportunity to extend her thanks to the nation for their support and understanding towards her brother, Charles, as he assumes his duties as King.
She concluded her statement with a simple yet powerful message: “To my mother, the Queen, thank you.”
This heartfelt tribute was shared on the Royal Family’s Instagram account, accompanied by a touching photo of Anne and the Queen, taken in 2016 to celebrate the monarch’s 90th birthday.
During the Queen’s illness, Princess Anne was in Scotland and remained by her bedside at Balmoral Castle.
As senior members of the royal family rushed to bid their final farewells, she stayed close to her mother.
On Thursday, September 8, Queen Elizabeth II peacefully passed away, marking the end of her historic reign.
Now, it falls upon Anne to accompany her mother’s body back to London, a duty she carries out alongside her husband, Vice-Admiral Sir Tim Lawrence.
The Queen’s Oak Coffin, accompanied by Anne and Sir Tim Lawrence, will travel to Buckingham Palace.
There, they will be received by King Charles III, the Queen Consort, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
The Earl and Countess of Wessex, the Duke of York, Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, Zara and Mike Tyndall, Lady Louise Windsor and Viscount Severn, as well as Princess Margaret’s children, Lady Sarah Chateau and Earl Snowden, will also be present.

Princess Anne, who was by her mother’s side leading up to her passing, has continued to remain close in the days following her death.

Alongside her brothers, King Charles, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward, she stood vigil by her mother’s coffin for 20 minutes at St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh.
