In a deeply poignant moment, Princess Anne maintained royal protocol by performing a graceful curtsy towards Queen Elizabeth as her mother’s coffin was brought into the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
The Princess Royal, visibly emotional, joined the Queen’s children and their horses, Vice-Admiral Sir Tim Lawrence, Prince Andrew, and the Earl and Countess of Wessex, as they lined up to pay their respects.
This moving tribute took place as the Queen’s coffin, adorned with the royal standard for Scotland and a wreath of Balmoral flowers, arrived at the Palace after a six-hour journey from Balmoral to Edinburgh.
Princess Anne, being the Queen’s only daughter, shared a special bond with her mother, which was evident as she followed closely behind the hearse during the journey.
During this solemn occasion, Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, reached out to console Princess Anne, who had been by her mother’s bedside during her final hours at Balmoral on Thursday.
Their connection was a testament to the close relationship they shared.
As the procession crossed the river Forth via the Queen’s Ferry Crossing at approximately 4pm, thousands of mourners had gathered along the Royal Mile to pay their respects.
The atmosphere fell silent in a show of respect as the convoy, carrying Princess Anne and Vice-Admiral Sir Tim Lawrence, arrived.
A wave of applause then erupted, honoring the arrival of the Queen’s coffin.
