In a forthcoming BBC documentary chronicling King Charles’s initial year as monarch, Princess Anne has commended Camilla for her grasp of the role of Queen, despite it not being a natural fit for her.
The program, set to air on Boxing Day, December 26, offers viewers an exclusive glimpse into Charles’s first year as the new British King following the passing of his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, in September last year.
Among the interviews with members of the Royal Family, Princess Anne stands out as she shares her thoughts on Camilla’s position as the Queen consort, lauding her daughter-in-law’s adeptness in understanding the responsibilities that come with the title.
Reflecting on her longstanding acquaintance with Camilla, Princess Anne expressed admiration for how well Camilla has adapted to the demands of her role alongside the King.
“I have known Camilla for a long time.
Her comprehension of this role and its significance to the King was remarkable,” Princess Anne remarked.
Despite the role not being inherently suited to Camilla, Princess Anne acknowledged her graceful handling of the responsibilities, emphasizing the importance of bringing a fresh perspective and dynamic to the royal duties.
The documentary sheds light on the history between Charles and Camilla, tracing back to their initial meeting at a polo match in 1970, facilitated by Princess Anne.
During their encounter, Camilla drew a connection between their families, noting, “My great-grandmother was your great-grandfather’s mistress.
I feel like we have something in common.”
This encounter took place while Anne was romantically involved with Andrew Parker Bowles, who would later become Camilla’s husband, married to him in a Roman Catholic ceremony in 1973.
Charles went on to marry Diana, Princess of Wales in July 1981, but his relationship with Camilla continued, leading to their eventual marriage in 2005.
Within the documentary “Charles III, The Year of the Coronation,” Camilla’s sister, Annabelle Elliot, painted a picture of Charles and Camilla’s relationship as a harmonious blend of contrasting qualities.
Describing them as yin and yang, Elliot highlighted the complementary nature of their personalities, with Camilla serving as a stabilizing force for Charles, while he, in turn, brought a diverse range of interests and knowledge into her life.
Elliot emphasized the symbiotic nature of their partnership, noting that despite being polar opposites, their differences contributed to a balanced and fulfilling relationship.
As the documentary “Charles III, The Coronation Year” is set to premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 6.50 pm on December 26, viewers can anticipate a deeper dive into the dynamics between King Charles and Queen Camilla, showcasing the intricacies of their partnership and the unique roles they play in each other’s lives.
Princess Anne’s rare commentary offers a glimpse into the respect and admiration within the Royal Family for Camilla’s contributions as Queen consort, highlighting the evolution of their relationship over the years and the significance of their bond in the context of the monarchy’s future.
