The Princess of Wales, Catherine, has recently undergone planned abdominal surgery at the London Clinic Hospital.
Kensington Palace made the announcement, stating that she will be an inpatient for up to two weeks.
However, the spokesperson assured the public that the surgery was successful and unrelated to cancer.
The Wales family has requested privacy during this time.
In a double blow for the royal family, Catherine’s father-in-law, King Charles, is scheduled to be admitted to the hospital next week for a corrective procedure on an enlarged prostate.
Both the princess and the monarch will take a break from their royal engagements as they recover from their surgeries.
This means that other members of the royal family will have to step in and fulfill their duties for the foreseeable future.
It is expected that Princess Catherine will remain in the hospital for 10 to 14 days before returning to her residence in Windsor, Berkshire, to continue her recovery with the support of her family.
Despite the setback, she expressed her apologies for postponing her upcoming engagements and hopes to reinstate them as soon as possible.
This demonstrates her dedication to her royal duties and her country, even while confined to a hospital bed.
As a result of these recent developments, it is likely that the princess will be absent from several events that are typically on her calendar during this time of year.
Notably, she will miss attending the annual BAFTA Awards in London, as well as any St. David’s Day events in March.
Additionally, the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey, which is a regular fixture in March, will also go on without her presence.
Furthermore, any royal tours that were planned for Prince William and Princess Catherine in the upcoming months have been canceled.
There were speculations about a visit to Italy in March, but these plans will no longer materialize.
While the palace did not disclose the specific nature of her treatment, it is believed to be non-cancerous.
Dr. Debra Lee, a medical expert, explained that the length of Princess Catherine’s hospital stay can be attributed to the type of abdominal surgery she underwent.
Typically, patients stay in the hospital for four to seven days after such a procedure.
However, if laparoscopic surgery is performed, the stay is usually reduced to two to four days.
Factors such as the need for intensive care can also extend the hospitalization period.
It may take the patient two months or more to fully recover and resume normal activities.
The princess was last seen publicly on Christmas Day, attending church with the royal family alongside her husband, Prince William, and their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
She looked stunning in a royal blue Alexander McQueen coat, paired with a navy roll-neck jumper and a hat by Juliet Millinery.
As they made their way to St. Mary Magdalene Church on the Sandringham Estate, Catherine held Princess Charlotte’s hand and shared a sweet moment with Prince Louis.
During the Christmas Day outing, the princess interacted with locals who had gathered to catch a glimpse of the royals, graciously accepting bouquets of flowers.
In December, she also attended a Christmas Carol concert at Westminster Abbey, joined by other members of the extended royal family.
Kensington Palace even released footage of Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis assisting their mother at a baby bank charity event near Maidenhead.
While Princess Catherine recovers from her surgery, the royal family will continue to support her and fulfill their own duties.
Despite the temporary absence of the princess, her commitment to her role and her country remains unwavering.
