Princess Charlotte and her brother, accompanied by their father, the Prince of Wales, participated in the solemn procession of Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin.
Princess Charlotte, second in line to the throne, was seen smiling as they followed the procession.
Sitting alongside her elder brother, Prince George, and in front of her mother, the Princess of Wales and Queen Consort Camilla, Princess Charlotte’s sweet smile captured the attention of the thousands lining the streets.
The procession took place in front of Buckingham Palace, where the young princess smiled as the procession rounded the Tiffany Fountain.
This heartfelt moment marked the beginning of a new era for the royal family, as it was the last time the late Queen had greeted the public from the balcony.
Earlier in the day, Princess Charlotte and Prince George, along with their mother Kate, Princess of Wales, attended their great-grandmother’s funeral at Westminster Abbey.
While Prince William arrived with his father, the two eldest children joined shortly after.
The couple’s youngest child, Prince Louis, did not attend the ceremony.
During the solemn procession into the abbey, Princess Charlotte held her mother’s hand while receiving a reassuring touch on the shoulder.
As they walked behind their great-grandmother’s coffin, Charlotte held her hands clasped in front of her, while George stood with his arms by his side.
Princess Charlotte wore a black coat dress similar to her mother’s, adorned with deep pleats and a small horseshoe-shaped brooch.
The brooch is believed to be a tribute to the late Queen’s love for horses.
Throughout the service, both Charlotte and George were seen studying their order of service.
At the conclusion of the service, George followed closely behind his father, while Kate guided Charlotte with a hand on her back.
The children looked down at times as they slowly exited the abbey.
Later, they stood alongside their mother, Kate, Meghan, Camilla, and the Countess of Wessex, watching as the Queen’s Coffin began its final journey from Westminster.
As the coffin reached Wellington Arch, it was transferred to the state hearse for the drive to Windsor, with senior royals observing from the side.
Charlotte held her mother’s hand and briefly chatted with her brother, gesturing towards the coffin as it was carefully lifted off the gun carriage.
Moving forward, Prince George takes one step closer to the throne, while Princess Charlotte becomes third in line.
As the eldest daughter of Prince William, she will eventually inherit the title of Princess Royal, but only after the current occupier, Princess Anne, passes away.
As the Queen is laid to rest and King Charles III ascends to the throne, the royal family enters a new chapter, with Princess Charlotte playing a significant role in the future of the monarchy.
