Princess Charlotte, the seven-year-old daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton, is set to inherit one of Princess Diana’s most treasured heirlooms, according to recent claims.
As the only daughter of the next in line to the throne following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II and the ascension of King Charles III, Charlotte will have the privilege of selecting from the palace’s collection of jewels.
However, it seems unlikely that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s daughter, Lilibet, will be given a share due to her position in the line of succession, as reported by the Daily Star.
An inside source revealed that among the pieces Charlotte will have access to is the stunning Spencer tiara, which was worn by Diana on her wedding day to Prince Charles in 1981.
This exquisite headpiece had been in Diana’s family for nearly a century before she married into the Windsor clan.
Previously, it had been worn by Diana’s two older sisters, Lady Sarah McCorkadale and Lady Jane Fellows.
Unlike Meghan, who borrowed a tiara from the queen for her wedding to Harry in 2018, Diana chose to wear this family heirloom on her special day.
The Spencer tiara holds sentimental value as it was partially crafted from a wedding gift given in 1919 by Lady Sarah Spencer to Diana’s grandmother, Lady Cynthia Hamilton, upon her marriage to Viscount Althorp.
Other jewels belonging to the Spencer family were also incorporated into its design.
Discussions are already underway to secure the tiara, currently in the possession of Diana’s youngest brother, Charles, the 9th Earl Spencer, for young Charlotte.
In 2021, a source informed Good To Know that while William is aware that the Earl has daughters of his own, they both agree that this iconic piece rightfully belongs to Diana’s first granddaughter.
Another royal insider, speaking to Australian magazine New Idea, revealed that Charlotte is aware of the tiara’s significance through learning about her grandmother Diana and eagerly anticipates the day when she can try it on for herself.
The insider added that Charlotte, whose middle name is Diana, has seen pictures of her grandmother wearing the tiara.
However, tradition dictates that brides must wait until their wedding day before donning such a precious piece.
Therefore, Charlotte may have to exercise patience until her own nuptials before she can proudly showcase this symbol of her family’s legacy.
