Weighing 7lbs and 11oz, the newborn has been named Lilibet, Lily Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, in honor of both the Queen and the late Princess of Wales.

Interestingly, the choice of name also holds a sweet connection to Prince Harry’s niece, Princess Charlotte, as both share a similar name.

Princess Charlotte, the second-born child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, was born on May 2, 2015.

Her full name, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, pays tribute to both her great-grandmother, Her Majesty the Queen, and her late grandmother, Princess Diana.

Thus, Meghan and Harry’s daughter shares two names with her older cousin, further strengthening their familial bond.

Yesterday evening, Meghan and Harry’s press secretary officially announced the birth of their baby girl.

The couple welcomed her into the world at 11:40 am at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in California, with the newborn weighing 7lbs 11oz.

The statement reassured everyone that both mother and child are in good health and now settling into their home.

Lily, the baby’s first name, is a tribute to her great-grandmother, the Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet.
