Princess Eugenie, daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, has recently given birth to a baby boy.
Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the couple has named their son August Philip Orke Brooksbank.
The newborn, who is now 11th in line to the throne, was born on February 9th at London’s Portland Hospital.
Three days later, Princess Eugenie and Jack were seen leaving the hospital together.
Today, the new mother revealed the name of their son and shared their first family picture.
The photo, believed to have been taken at Frogmore Cottage where the couple currently resides, features Princess Eugenie, Jack, and their adorable baby boy.
This little bundle of joy is not only their first child but also the 9th great-grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Princess Eugenie expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support they have received.
She wrote, “Thank you for so many wonderful messages.
Our hearts are full of love for this little human, words can’t express.
We are excited to be able to share these photos with you.”
The proud mother also thanked their midwife, who took the photograph, and acknowledged the hard work of essential workers.
Although the name August is not traditionally associated with the British royal family, it holds significance in the German hereditary royal line, from which Queen Victoria descended.
The name August, derived from Latin, means “great.”
It also pays tribute to Queen Victoria’s husband, Prince Albert, whose full name was Francis Albert Augustus Charles Emmanuel.
Furthermore, the couple chose the middle name Philip to honor Princess Eugenie’s grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh.
Philip is an anglicized version of the Greek name “philos,” meaning friend.
Notably, Prince Philip was born into the Greek and Danish royal families but was exiled from Greece during infancy.
