Princess Kate and Prince William have turned down an opportunity to upgrade their living quarters, according to a Royal author.
Recent reports suggested that the couple was considering a move from their current Adelaide cottage residence to Royal Lodge, the expansive home of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York.
It was rumored that King Charles III was contemplating evicting the Duke of York as part of efforts to reduce the monarchy’s expenses.
However, Prince Andrew received a reprieve in October 2023, allowing him to remain in his residence for the time being.
In his new book, “The Making of a King: King Charles III and the Modern Monarchy,” Royal author Robert Hardman revealed that Princess Kate and Prince William might still consider the move, but they have two compelling reasons to stay put.
According to a Royal official quoted by Hardman, the couple is content with their current situation at Adelaide cottage.
They enjoy the privacy and the absence of a large staff, which allows them to live as a close-knit family.
While the potential relocation from Adelaide cottage to the Royal Lodge remains uncertain, Prince Andrew’s immunity from eviction is not permanent.
It is contingent on his compliance with the demands outlined in his Crown Estate lease agreement.
The Duke of York is responsible for funding the repairs needed at the Grade II listed Windsor estate property.
These repairs are estimated to cost around £2 million, and Prince Andrew has already paid one-tenth of that amount as an interim payment.
However, he will need to settle the remaining balance to continue residing there.
According to a family friend who spoke to Mail Online, Prince Andrew is expected to face difficulties in meeting the remaining costs.
The source stated that none of the Royals believe he has a realistic chance of retaining his residency at Royal Lodge.
The friend described the situation as “cloud cuckoo-land,” with no one, including His Majesty, believing that the Duke of York can keep a roof over his head at the property in the long term.
In conclusion, Princess Kate and Prince William have declined an offer to move into a larger home, citing their happiness and privacy at Adelaide cottage as the main reasons.
While a potential relocation to the Royal Lodge was rumored, it remains uncertain.
Meanwhile, Prince Andrew’s immunity from eviction is temporary, and he must fulfill the financial obligations outlined in his Crown Estate lease agreement to maintain his residence.
