Princess Lilibet, the daughter of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, is likely to remain oblivious to the scandal surrounding her name for years to come, thanks to her parents’ protective parenting style.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, known for their emphasis on privacy, are determined to shield their children from online negativity as they grow older.
When Princess Lilibet was born on June 4, 2021, she was given the name Lilibet Diana in honor of her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, and her late grandmother, Princess Diana.
However, the choice of her first name sparked outrage among some, as “Lilibet” was a nickname only used by close friends and family to refer to the Queen during her childhood.
Although Prince Harry and Meghan Markle claimed that they would not have chosen the name without the support of Queen Elizabeth, it has been revealed in Robert Hardman’s latest royal biography that the Queen was not entirely pleased with their decision.
Despite the uproar surrounding her name, royal expert Kinsey Schofield believes that Princess Lilibet will have little awareness of the controversy as she grows up.
Schofield, a US-based royal commentator and podcaster, explained that Lilibet’s upbringing in the United States, sheltered from the UK and royal life, will contribute to her lack of understanding regarding the furore over her name.
She predicts that it will take a significant amount of time before Lilibet has the freedom to discover this particular scandal online, considering the causes her parents have taken up.
Furthermore, Schofield suggests that Lilibet will be indoctrinated to believe that the press is bad and filled with misinformation, based on her parents’ views.
As an American with little connection to her father’s heritage, Lilibet is unlikely to be bothered by the sensational story.
Meghan Markle has shown no interest in investing in the history of Harry’s family, and there have been factual errors in Harry’s book, “Spare,” indicating his lack of awareness.
In the United States, Lilibet is not considered a princess, as there is no such title.
Therefore, she may wear a crown on the local playground, but it holds no significance beyond that.
Due to her detachment from the royal family, Lilibet will likely remain unaffected by the chaos surrounding her name.
However, Schofield warns that the tactic of keeping Archie and Lilibet away from their extended family may eventually backfire as they grow older.
The Sussexes have created their own isolated bubble in California, estranged from Harry’s family since their relocation to Montecito in 2020.
They have only brought their children back to the UK once, for the Platinum Jubilee in 2022, coinciding with Lilibet’s first birthday.
This visit allowed Lilibet to meet her great-grandmother and namesake, Queen Elizabeth, for the first and only time before the Queen’s passing in September 2022.
King Charles has found it difficult to be so far away from his family, although Meghan reportedly keeps him updated on Archie and Lilibet’s well-being.
Speculation suggests that Harry’s desire for his children to have a relationship with their extended family may prompt him to reconcile with his father in the future.
