On International Women’s Day, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a special announcement regarding their daughter’s christening.
Princess Little Bit Diana was christened on March 3rd in an intimate ceremony held at the Sussex’s Montecito home.
Despite the absence of her grandfather, King Charles, and her uncle, Prince William, the senior members of the royal family were invited to attend this joyous occasion.
According to Marie Claire, Harry’s aunts, Lady Jane, Phyllis, and Lady Sarah McClordale, who are the sisters of the late Princess Diana, were present at the gathering.
It is worth mentioning that both Harry and William have maintained a close relationship with their aunts and uncle on their mother’s side since Diana’s tragic passing in 1997.
In fact, Lady Jane delivered an emotional reading from the Song of Solomon during Harry’s wedding to Meghan in 2018.
The Duke of Sussex was last seen alongside his aunts in 2021, when he and William unveiled a statue in honor of their late mother at Kensington Palace.
Adding a touch of Hollywood glamour to the christening, Tyler Perry, who was named Little Bit’s godparent, flew in a 10-person gospel choir to Los Angeles.
The group performed heartwarming songs such as “Oh Happy Day” and “This Little Light of Mine,” which were also featured at Harry and Meghan’s wedding ceremony in 2018.
It is worth noting that Mr. Perry had famously loaned his £18 million Beverly Hills mansion to the Sussexes in 2020.
The christening of Princess Little Bit Diana deviated from royal tradition, as it took place in California rather than a royal estate like Buckingham Palace or Windsor.
A spokesperson for the Sussexes confirmed the christening on International Women’s Day, stating that the ceremony was conducted by the Bishop of Los Angeles, Rev.
John Taylor.
The event was attended by 25 guests, as reported by People magazine.
Although senior members of the royal family were unable to attend due to their busy schedules, they were said to be together in Santa Grim.
The announcement of the christening also brought a change to the official titles of the Sussexes’ children.
Archie, who is three years old, and Little Bit, who is one year old, are now officially recognized as Prince and Princess of Sussex.
They hold the 6th and 7th positions in the line of succession to the throne.
Previously, they were referred to as Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor and Miss Little Bit Mountbatten-Windsor on the royal family’s official website.
Princess Little Bit Diana’s christening was an intimate affair, with only close family and friends in attendance.
The presence of Harry’s aunts, Lady Jane Fellows and Lady Sarah McClodale, held special significance due to their close bond with their late sister, Princess Diana.
Tyler Perry’s involvement as a godparent and the inclusion of a gospel choir added a touch of Hollywood glamour to the event.
While the christening broke from royal tradition, it is clear that the Sussexes are forging their own path and making their own rules when it comes to their family.
