In a recent poll conducted by Express.co.uk, readers were asked their opinion on whether the Duke and Duchess of Sussex should be allowed to keep their residence at Windsor Estate.
The results were quite surprising, with only 9% of readers in favor of Harry and Meghan preserving their Windsor Estate residence.
A staggering 88% of readers agreed with King Charles III’s decision to evict the couple from Frogmore House, leaving them without a base in the UK.
The controversy surrounding their residence began when Harry and Meghan left their royal duties three years ago but decided to hold on to the Grade II-listed royal property gifted to them by Queen Elizabeth II.
However, it was recently revealed that Buckingham Palace issued an eviction notice to the couple in January, shortly after Harry released his candid memoir.
Confirming the news, a spokesperson for Harry and Meghan stated, “We can confirm the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been told to evacuate their house at Frogmore Cottage.”
This unexpected turn of events could potentially complicate any future visits by the couple to the UK, according to royal writer Jack Royston.
He believes that losing Frogmore Cottage would sever an important link between Harry, Meghan, and Britain, making future trips more challenging.
Frogmore Cottage holds significant importance due to its location on a private estate near Windsor Castle.
Apart from being a residence, it also provides de facto police security, protecting against assassination attempts, terrorist attacks, press intrusion, and royal watchers.
Losing Frogmore Cottage would mean much more than just losing a house for Harry and Meghan.
Express.co.uk conducted a series of polls to gauge readers’ opinions on King Charles’ decision.
Out of the 12,510 readers who responded, a resounding 88% (11,027 respondents) agreed with the eviction, while only 11% (1,420 respondents) believed the couple should keep Frogmore Cottage.
A mere 1% (63 respondents) were unsure about their stance on the matter.
The poll also asked readers where Harry and Meghan should stay during their future visits to the UK.
Out of the 12,581 participants, 56% (7,052 persons) voted in favor of them staying in a hotel.
Another 28% (3,565 respondents) suggested they reside in another royal palace, while 11% (1,123 respondents) felt they should preserve Frogmore Cottage.
Only 5% (167 respondents) agreed that Harry and Meghan should receive another royal property, with another 5% (674 respondents) indicating uncertainty.
The article sparked a lively conversation among readers, with the majority supporting the decision to remove the couple from Frogmore Cottage.
User Mrismitchell suggested that when Harry’s lease expires in June, the King’s crown estates should decline to extend it.
Natjem agreed with King Charles’ decision, stating, “He made the appropriate choice.
It seems unethical for them to keep a house empty for years on end when they are not residents in the UK.”
User jennys27 echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that it was unnecessary for Harry and Meghan to hold onto a property they rarely used when they could easily book a room at a five-star hotel during their visits.
Lorraine Kelly from ITV suggested that the couple should rent a hotel for their future trips, highlighting the fact that they already have a multi-million-dollar house in America and no longer require a residence on the royal estate.
User Butterscotch concurred, stating, “They can purchase a base in England if they so choose.
It’s not difficult to find one that will suit their needs.”
The overwhelming support from readers for Prince Charles’ decision to evict Harry and Meghan from Frogmore Cottage highlights a clear consensus.
The couple’s future visits to the UK may no longer include a stay at their former residence, but there are numerous alternatives available to them if they wish to maintain a base in the country.
