In a recent interview, Rick Hoffman, recognized for his portrayal of the morally ambiguous Louis Litt on the hit series Suits, opened up about the show’s unexpected revival and the role Meghan Markle’s marriage to Prince Harry might have played in it.
The legal drama, which had its heyday years ago, has experienced a remarkable comeback since being added to Netflix, quickly becoming a binge-watching favorite once more.
For those who haven’t caught up, Suits originally aired for seven seasons before ending in 2019.
However, its reappearance on Netflix has catapulted it back into the spotlight.
Meghan Markle, who portrayed the ambitious paralegal Rachel Zane, left the show to embrace royal life, making her a pivotal figure in this resurgence narrative.
You might expect Hoffman to embrace the notion that Markle’s royal status boosted the show’s popularity, but his response was quite the opposite.
During his chat on KFC Radio, when the hosts suggested that Markle’s royal romance sparked renewed interest in Suits, Hoffman didn’t exactly shower her with accolades.
Instead, he turned the conversation back to himself, stating, “If I hadn’t shown up that day, I wouldn’t have been cast in Suits.” His comments suggest that he sees individual contributions as more significant than external factors like Markle’s celebrity.
To set the stage, Meghan began dating Prince Harry in 2016 and decided to leave Suits just a year later, after a successful run on the show.
While she transitioned into royal duties, Suits continued without her for two additional seasons.
Fast forward to 2023, and the series found itself back at the top of Netflix’s charts, captivating a new audience.
Not everyone has embraced the show’s revival, though.
At the Golden Globes earlier this year, the Suits cast had a reunion, but Markle was notably absent.
Gina Torres, who played the formidable Jessica Pearson, responded bluntly when asked about her absence, saying, “We don’t have a number.
We just don’t.” This remark hints at a growing disconnect between Markle and her former co-stars.
The distance seems to be mutual.
Gabriel Macht, who played Harvey Specter, mentioned that aside from Markle’s support for the show’s resurgence, he hasn’t had any direct contact with her.
Similarly, Patrick J. Adams, who portrayed Mike Ross, confirmed that he hasn’t been in touch with her at all, indicating a lack of communication since her departure from the show.
It appears that while Suits has reclaimed its place in popular culture, Markle’s transition into royal life has created a rift with her past.
The pressures of her new status seem to have overshadowed her connections with the cast.
Despite her significant role in the show’s early success, her absence from the reunion and the lack of interaction with former colleagues suggest a shift in priorities.
As the world tunes back into the legal drama, it raises questions about how fame and fortune can alter relationships.
