Camilla, at the age of 75, has revealed a unique cipher crafted in her honor upon assuming the role of Queen Consort to King Charles III following the passing of Queen Elizabeth in September.
Buckingham Palace officially announced on Monday that the insignia is the personal possession of the Senior Royal, handpicked by Camilla from a range of designs.
The cipher consists of Camilla’s monogram, positioned beneath an illustration of the crown.
The monogram CR combines Queen Camilla’s initials C and R for Regina, denoting Queen in Latin.
Similarly, Charles’ cipher showcases the initial of his first name and R for Rex, meaning King, accompanied by the Roman numeral for three.
This new emblem will be utilized by the Queen Consort on her personal stationery, cards, gifts, and notably on the cross she will place at the Field of Remembrance ahead of Remembrance Day this weekend.
The creation of Camilla’s insignia was a collaborative effort between Professor Ewan Clayton, a calligrapher affiliated with the Royal Drawing School’s Faculty and Academic Board, and Timothy Node, Herald Painter and Scrivener at the College of Arms.
This unveiling of the Queen Consort’s insignia comes subsequent to that of her spouse.
The fresh royal symbol was introduced in September and is set to gradually replace Queen Elizabeth’s ER II emblem.
While some alterations will occur gradually, officials from the palace have confirmed that the postmarks on all outgoing mail from Buckingham Palace have already transitioned.
As the monarch, Charles’ cipher will also feature on official state documents and eventually on the iconic red mailboxes throughout the United Kingdom, in addition to being adopted by government departments for their correspondence.
King Charles made his selection from a variety of designs put forth by the heraldry experts at the College of Arms.
