In a recent revelation by a royal expert, it has been disclosed that the Duchess of Sussex retains full authority when it comes to deciding on her visits to the United Kingdom and cannot be compelled to make the journey.
The year 2020 witnessed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepping back from their royal duties to embrace a new life in Montecito, California, alongside their children Archie and Lilbit.
Richard Fitzwilliams, a renowned royal commentator, emphasized that in the scenario of a family visit to the UK, the final decision lies with the Duchess of Sussex.
During a period marked by his father, the King’s battle with cancer, the Duke of Sussex made a trip back to the United Kingdom to be with his family, among several other visits he has undertaken since relocating to the United States.
Fitzwilliams reiterated in an interview with Bella magazine that the Duchess of Sussex holds the ultimate authority in such matters.
It is evident that Harry is keen on conveying his unwavering dedication to his family, much like his father, the Prince of Wales.
Furthermore, it was highlighted that the Duchess of Sussex cannot be coerced into accompanying their children on a visit to the UK.
Fitzwilliams added that it is highly improbable for the Duke of Sussex to embark on such a journey without her by his side.
However, the Duke of Sussex is now faced with the task of repaying taxpayers following a legal dispute with the Home Office over security arrangements, resulting in a substantial financial liability amounting to £1 million.
After an unfavorable outcome in his legal battle concerning his UK police protection, the High Court ruled that the Duke of Sussex must cover 90% of the legal expenses incurred by the Home Office, imposing a significant financial strain on him.
The Duke’s conflict with the government arose due to alterations in his security arrangements during his time in Britain, as reported by the Mirror.
Despite a spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex expressing hopes for a favorable judgment from the Court of Appeal, the initial attempt to challenge the ruling was unsuccessful.
Notably, the government’s expenditure on legal fees amounted to £514,128, encompassing substantial costs for solicitors, barristers, and court expenses.
Nevertheless, the precise sum that the Duke of Sussex is required to repay remains undisclosed, as per a Freedom of Information request.
It is estimated that the Duke’s personal legal costs align closely with this figure.
