According to a recent poll conducted by Express.co.uk, the decision made by the royal family to skip Princess Liliadet’s christening in the US has been widely supported.
The poll, which received 10,103 votes, revealed that an astounding 91% of readers agreed with King Charles III, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Kate Middleton’s choice not to attend the christening of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s daughter.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex held the private ceremony for their 21-month-old daughter, Princess Liliadet Diana, at their home in Montecito, California.
The event was attended by approximately 20 to 30 guests, including Meghan’s mother, Doria Redland, and Liliadet’s godfather, Tyler Perry.
The christening was officiated by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev.
John Taylor.
Despite extending an invitation to the King, Queen Consort, and the Prince and Princess of Wales, they were noticeably absent from the ceremony.
Readers who participated in the poll expressed their agreement with the royal family’s decision, citing logistical challenges and the heavy workload of the elderly members as valid reasons for their absence.
Some readers even suggested that a representative should have been sent in their place.
Traditionally, royal children are christened at either Buckingham Palace or Windsor, with close family members in attendance.
In the case of Harry and Meghan’s first child, three-year-old Prince R.T. Harrison, the christening took place at Windsor Castle with 25 guests present when he was eight weeks old on July 6, 2019.
The announcement of Princess Liliadet’s christening marked the first time that the Sussexes used the royal titles Prince and Princess for their children.
According to a 1917 letters patent, the grandchildren of the monarch are entitled to these titles.
While a minority of readers criticized the royal family’s decision, the overwhelming support they received indicates that many understand the challenges they face in attending every event due to their busy schedules and logistical constraints.
The poll results have sparked discussions among royal enthusiasts, with some expressing their thoughts in the comments section.
It remains to be seen how this decision will impact the relationship between the Sussexes and the rest of the royal family.
As always, stay tuned for further updates on this story.
