Meghan Markle and Prince Harry found themselves in a whirlwind of emotions as their requests leading up to a significant royal occasion were swiftly turned down by the palace, as per revelations by a royal author.
The revered Queen Elizabeth II commemorated her platinum jubilee in June 2022, marking an astounding 70 years on the throne.
A distinguished royal biographer disclosed that it was the couple’s recent collaboration with Netflix that triggered them to assert certain demands concerning their involvement in the platinum jubilee festivities, according to reports from the Mirror.
In his book titled “Revenge, Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors,” Tom Bower elaborated on how the Sussexes harbored deep resentment after the palace rejected all of their stipulations for the jubilee weekend.
Despite jetting off to the Netherlands for the Invictus Games in April 2022, their frustration simmered as the palace rebuffed their entreaties for a prominent role at the jubilee in exchange for their return to Britain with their children, as outlined by Bower.
Bower further delved into the dynamics within the royal family, highlighting Prince Charles’ preference that, given the couple’s status as private individuals, they should abstain from joining the rest of the family on the balcony or partaking in a royal carriage ride during the platinum jubilee.
In a bid to secure a more visible presence during the celebrations, Harry sought permission to meet the Queen at Windsor.
However, the monarch redirected him to first visit his father, Charles, along with Camilla before meeting her.
Although the situation seemingly improved when they eventually met the Queen, the unresolved issue lingered regarding their participation on the balcony.
Moreover, stringent security measures were reportedly implemented, with the couple and their associates likely being scrutinized for cameras, microphones, and other electronic devices.
Despite the setbacks, Harry and Meghan opted for a low-key approach throughout the weekend, attending only the major events.
During the Trooping the Colour parade, the couple observed from the Major General’s office, as non-working members of the royal family were excluded from the customary balcony appearance.
Subsequently, the Sussexes made their inaugural official public appearance in the UK since stepping back as senior royals, attending the National Service of Thanksgiving honoring the Queen at St Paul’s Cathedral.
Amidst the tumultuous family dynamics, it was unveiled that the late Queen made a poignant remark upon learning of Meghan Markle’s absence at Prince Philip’s funeral.
The timing of his passing coincided with a particularly challenging period for the royal family, following the explosive revelations made by Prince Harry and Meghan during their candid interview with Oprah Winfrey.
The allegations made during the interview, including discussions about their son’s skin color and rifts within the family, exacerbated tensions between the couple and the rest of the royals.
As speculation loomed over Meghan’s attendance at the funeral, compounded by her pregnancy and prevailing Covid restrictions, she ultimately decided to remain in California while Harry journeyed to London solo.
