King Charles, accompanied by his wife Camilla, embarked on an official visit to France, where they indulged in the exquisite taste of fine wines at a renowned French vineyard.
The royal couple’s journey led them to Bordeaux, following a brief stay in the capital city of Paris.
Upon their arrival, they were warmly greeted at the town hall, which was undergoing restoration efforts following a fire incident in March.
During his state visit to France, King Charles raised a toast to the success of their trip while delighting in a glass of local Bordeaux wine.
The royal duo’s presence in Bordeaux marked a significant moment, especially considering the recent disruptions that had forced the cancellation of their initial visit plans amidst civil unrest.
After their time in Paris, Charles and Camilla made their way to the southwest port city, where they were welcomed at City Hall amidst a backdrop of ongoing repairs and renovations.
The royal entourage then proceeded to partake in a festive atmosphere within the city center, as part of a larger initiative by the British government to bolster trade relations.
Amidst the bustling festival, King Charles showcased his sporting prowess by skillfully maneuvering a ball through a challenging obstacle at the Gilbert Rugby Company stand.
Additionally, he had the opportunity to sample a unique Cotswolds whisky, crafted from barley sourced from Highgrove, a gesture that garnered praise from sales executive Hughes Roberts Baby, who expressed his admiration for the beverage.
The locals, adorned with a mix of French and Union flags, enthusiastically cheered on the royal visitors, echoing chants of “God save the King.”
Notably, longtime butcher Georges Bretoux, 57, remarked on the historical significance of the royal visit, underscoring the deep-rooted impact it had on the community.
During their time in Bordeaux, Charles, 74, and Camilla, 76, revisited moments captured in photographs from Charles’ previous visit to the city in 1977, as well as the late Queen Elizabeth’s memorable stopover in 1992.
The royal couple also paid a visit to the British Navy ship HMS Iron Duke, symbolizing the enduring ties between the UK and France.
