The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, has recently found herself at the center of swirling rumors suggesting that she won’t be getting a coveted Vogue cover or an invite to the prestigious Met Gala.
Anonymous sources claim that their neighbor’s sister-in-law, who supposedly works at Vogue, was heard laughing hysterically at a text message she received regarding Markle’s name change from Markle to Sussex.
The sources referred to Markle as a “wannabe” and suggested that the decision to change her name was met with resistance but ultimately approved by Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue.
However, it is alleged that Wintour made a remark insinuating that Markle would never grace the cover of Vogue or attend the Met Gala, with the unspoken implication being that she is considered “white trash.”
Adding fuel to the fire, it has been revealed that Anna Wintour’s boyfriend is none other than Bill Nighy, the esteemed English actor.
Observers speculate that Nighy’s presence in Wintour’s life may have influenced her decision regarding Markle.
Nighy himself has experienced disappointment in the past, having failed to secure an invitation to the Oscars or the star-studded Beckham wedding.
Insiders claim that Markle and Prince Harry are feeling snubbed by local celebrities in California and are now redirecting their ambitions towards becoming the king and queen of New York.
Their attempts to penetrate Hollywood circles and befriend A-listers like Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, the Spielbergs, the Obamas, and the Clooneys have thus far proven unsuccessful.
Despite their expectations of a warm welcome upon moving to California, the reality is that they have found themselves largely isolated.
Royal expert Daniela Elster suggests that Harry and Meghan are fast becoming recluses in Hollywood, with little to no interaction with their desired circle of celebrity friends.
Their absence from David and Victoria Beckham’s son Brooklyn Beckham’s wedding weekend with Nicola Peltz has been particularly noted.
In contrast, Prince William and Kate Middleton were invited, leading many to label it the social snub of the year.
This is not the first time that the Sussexes have found themselves excluded from important events since relocating to the US.
Earlier this year, rumors circulated that they would make an appearance on the Oscars stage, but that did not materialize.
Similarly, they were absent from the red carpet at the Met Gala in New York and President Barack Obama’s 60th birthday celebration on Martha’s Vineyard last year.
Elster believes that it is not the Hollywood elite who are snubbing Harry and Meghan, but rather the couple who are choosing to opt out of major events in favor of quiet nights in.
She highlights how restrained their social life has become since their departure from the UK to pursue their content creation endeavors.
Another royal expert, Professor Soleil Otnis, suggests that Harry and Meghan have taken the wrong approach to branding themselves.
Despite leaving the royal family in 2020 in search of a more private life, they continue to live by the standards of Hollywood royalty.
Otnis questions why they feel the need to embrace an elite lifestyle when they are not part of the Hollywood elite themselves.
