Serena Williams, the renowned tennis star, chose to skip Meghan Markle’s reception at William Morris Endeavour (WME) while making a surprising announcement at the Met Gala.
Meghan recently signed with WME, a talent agency that represents top-tier clients such as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Serena herself.
After stepping back from their roles as senior British royals three years ago, Meghan is now fully immersing herself in the entertainment industry once again, as reported by Variety.
To celebrate her lucrative contract with WME, Meghan organized a reception party in Montecito.
Interestingly, she deliberately scheduled it on May 1st to coincide with the Met Gala, an event to which she was not invited.
The intimate gathering included key staff from Archwell, Meghan’s foundation, as well as her mother, Doria, and a few close friends who have also received donations from Archwell.
While Meghan made waves with her reception, Serena Williams, who is currently embroiled in an interest dispute with her, declined Meghan’s invitation to the Met Gala.
Nevertheless, Serena stole the show at the event, donning an exquisite Gucci gown and a radiant smile.
She even confirmed her pregnancy by placing her husband Alexis Ohanian’s hand on her baby bump.
Serena shared her excitement about attending the Met Gala on social media, posting several pictures along with the caption, “Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the three of us to the Met Gala.
The Met Gala is extremely fashionable, and everyone showcases their talents.”
It is worth noting that Serena and Meghan’s relationship has always been a subject of speculation.
While some believe it was merely a PR deal, as both were represented by Sunshine Sachs, others insist they were never close friends.
Since parting ways with Sunshine Sachs, Serena has made occasional comments implying that their connection was not as strong as perceived.
Unfortunately, Meghan’s transition from being a royal to a private individual seems to have diminished her status, as she was unable to secure an invitation to the Met Gala despite being married to a prince.
In other news, a royal commentator, Kinsey Schofield, has suggested that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s brand may have played a role in their absence from the Met Gala.
Schofield, an American journalist and the creator of the “To Die For Daily” website, expressed her belief that the Sussex brand has become toxic due to Harry and Meghan’s recent criticism of the royal family.
She further speculated that the secretive nature of the Met Gala might have discouraged their presence, as the event thrives on discretion and exclusivity.
Celebrities often have to sneak selfies in the bathroom to capture moments from the gala.
Schofield added that the couple’s attendance could have diverted attention away from the usual suspects and that celebrities might fear their private conversations being shared.
Moreover, the Sussexes’ tendency to focus on the negative aspects of their experiences may not have left a favorable impression on everyone.
Schofield also emphasized that Anna Wintour, the chairwoman of the Met Gala, would not want anything to detract attention from King Charles’s upcoming coronation on May 6th.
