Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, have found themselves at the center of a heated debate following their response to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Omid Scobie, a renowned journalist, has accused the couple of a royal blunder due to their dismissive remarks about the interview.
In their first major joint interview in over two decades, the then Earl and Countess of Wessex spoke to the Telegraph and were asked if they had watched the bombshell sit-down.
In a light-hearted manner, they jokingly questioned who Oprah was, stating that if one is not interested in chat shows, there is no reason to know about her.
Sophie even added, “Certainly not in this country, anyway,” referring to the United States chat show host.
However, Omid Scobie, an expert in royal affairs, believes that these comments, which seemingly downplayed Oprah’s significance as one of the most successful black women in the world of entertainment, reflect a lack of awareness or even casual bigotry on the part of the royal couple.
Scobie argues that these remarks contribute to a growing list of recent missteps by Sophie and Edward, further tarnishing the image of the monarchy.
Scobie goes on to criticize the couple’s lack of media coverage, citing their trip to the Cayman Islands in February this year as an example.
According to him, their excursion failed to make headlines in Western press and only received attention from local news outlets such as the Cayman Compass and Cayman News Service.
Scobie even recalls a conversation with a prominent Fleet Street editor who humorously remarked, “I’d have more luck putting my mum on the front page.”
The author also highlights Sophie and Edward’s visit to Antigua in March 2022, suggesting that they used the occasion to demand apologies and reparatory justice for Britain’s historical colonization of the Caribbean.
Furthermore, Scobie takes a swipe at Sophie, claiming that she deliberately ignored Meghan Markle outside Westminster Abbey during the late Queen’s state funeral.
This act, according to royal enthusiasts, reinforces the belief that Meghan still holds a grudge against Sophie for her role in escorting her out of the UK.
The Royal Grift, a YouTube channel dedicated to discussing royal matters, asserts that Meghan was ordered to leave the UK by the late Queen, with the consent of senior members of the royal family.
This revelation sheds light on Meghan’s ongoing resentment towards the royal family.
It is revealed that Meghan was escorted from London’s National Theatre by royal security before the couple announced their plan to split their time between the UK and North America.
The incident occurred while Meghan was visiting the theatre, where she held a patronage, and coincided with her contemplation of future options.
Shortly after their visit, Meghan and Harry took to Instagram to share their reflections and decision to spend time outside the UK, particularly during their Christmas break in Canada.
However, recently resurfaced photos show Meghan being formally escorted from the theatre, as she believed she had a meeting scheduled with Queen Elizabeth.
It is reported that the Queen canceled the meeting, intending to discuss matters with Meghan.
As events unfolded, Meghan was swiftly taken to the airport, leaving behind a diary untouched at Frogmore, with only two bags of belongings.
She was accompanied by royal protectors and bid farewell by Duchess Sophie and Prince Edward, who ensured a smooth departure.
During this process, Prince Edward’s involvement raised eyebrows, hinting that Meghan may have discreetly sold royal information to Hollywood media outlets for financial gain.
The Queen, upon discovering this misconduct, took appropriate action to penalize Meghan.
