Sophie Winkleman, the actress known for her role in Peep Show, has opened up about her royal connections in a recent interview with Tatler magazine.
Winkleman, who is married to Lord Frederick Windsor, the second cousin of King Charles, spoke fondly of the reigning monarch, referring to him as a “very dear friend.”
Describing her observations of King Charles’ work ethic, Winkleman shared, “You see how he works all day long, has a quick supper, and then disappears until around 4am to write letters.
He cares about so many things and comes up with brilliant solutions.”
She also expressed her admiration for the wider royal family, stating, “Behind the camera, they’re really fun, clever, and kind people.”
While Winkleman revealed her friendship with the Prince and Princess of Wales, she acknowledged that their busy schedules and living outside of London limit their opportunities to spend quality time together.
However, she expressed her love for them and emphasized their warm personalities.
The actress also shared a personal experience that highlighted the kindness of the royal family.
In 2016, Winkleman was involved in a serious car accident that resulted in a broken foot and three bones in her back.
During her recovery, she received support from Prince Charles, who arranged for his cook at Clarence House to provide her family with meals twice a day for several months.
Other royal cousins, including Prince William and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, also showed their care and concern.
Prince William asked an air ambulance colleague to ensure Winkleman’s well-being, while Sophie, Countess of Wessex, visited her in the hospital.
Despite the slow and painful recuperation process, Winkleman found solace in a conversation with the Queen, who encouraged her to swim in order to aid her recovery.
The Queen generously allowed Winkleman to use the pool at Buckingham Palace, which she credits as the reason for her improvement.
Reflecting on her interactions with the royal family, Winkleman expressed gratitude and admiration, stating, “They sound like a wonderful family, and not the moustache-twirling villains the Sussexes make them out to be.”
She also praised the regal and elegant demeanor of the royal family, highlighting the stark contrast between herself and Meghan Markle.
Winkleman’s choice of wearing Dior, a renowned designer brand, may serve as a subtle clapback to the Duchess of Sussex, whose fashion choices have been a subject of scrutiny.
Sophie Winkleman’s interview in Tatler provides a glimpse into her close relationship with the royal family and her admiration for King Charles.
Her experiences showcase the caring nature and supportiveness of the royals during challenging times.
As an accomplished actress, Winkleman’s insights shed light on the genuine personalities behind the public personas of the royal family members.
