In a surprising turn of events, it has been revealed that Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, was written out of the hit TV show Suits before she even started dating Prince Harry.
The news comes amidst heavy coverage of Suits breaking streaming records, with the show currently ranking as one of the biggest on the planet, according to the Nielsen streaming chart.
Jean Klein, a non-writing producer for the entire nine-season run of Suits, recently discussed the factors contributing to the show’s success.
Interestingly, he made no mention of Meghan when discussing the boost in viewership.
Despite her supporting role for seven seasons, Megan has garnered more attention than the lead actors in various Puff PR articles and social media posts by entertainment industry outlets.
Klein expressed his surprise at the show’s continued popularity, stating, “I obviously had a sense when I found out it was coming to Netflix that it would probably get another burst of viewing and that kind of thing, but I didn’t think this would happen.”
He further added, “People are sticking with it.
It’s great.”
When asked about the show’s enduring popularity, Klein highlighted two factors at play.
Firstly, the appeal of the show itself, and secondly, the power of the platform on which it is available.
While he acknowledged that some viewers may have initially tuned in due to Meghan’s notoriety, he emphasized that the show’s success was not solely reliant on her presence.
Interestingly, reports suggest that Meghan was written out of the next series of Suits, leading her to seek new opportunities in London and eventually meet Prince Harry.
The show’s creator, Aaron Korsh, confirmed this decision, stating, “I knew from a year ago that this relationship was burgeoning and I had a decision to make.”
Korsh explained that he did not want to intrude on Meghan’s personal life and therefore decided to write her character, Rachel Zane, out of the show.
In the storyline, Rachel Zane married Mike Ross, played by Patrick J. Adams, in season 7 of Suits.
The couple then moved to Seattle to open a legal clinic.
Interestingly, Adams also left the series at the same time, indicating a natural exit for both characters.
Contrary to popular belief, Meghan had not even met Prince Harry at the time of her departure from Suits.
This was evident when Suits cast members were invited to the church but not the evening reception of Harry and Meghan’s wedding.
Instead, they had a karaoke session in London.
It is worth noting that only 200 close friends and family were invited to the evening event, with many others, including some of Harry’s oldest friends, also not attending.
While Meghan’s departure from Suits may have been a strategic move by the show’s creators, it is clear that her subsequent relationship with Prince Harry has propelled her into the global spotlight.
Despite her absence from the show, Suits continues to attract a dedicated fan base, proving that its appeal extends beyond Meghan’s involvement.
In conclusion, Suits executive Jean Klein’s recent revelations shed light on Meghan Markle’s departure from the show before her relationship with Prince Harry.
This unexpected twist further adds to the intrigue surrounding Meghan’s journey from actress to royalty.
