The entertainment industry mourns the loss of celebrated writer Justin Peacock, who passed away at the age of 52.
Known for his work on popular shows such as Suits and Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer, Peacock’s death was confirmed by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Coroner’s Office.
He died in his Los Angeles home on July 13th due to cardiovascular disease.
In an official statement released by Peacock’s family, they expressed their deep sorrow over the loss of a brilliant mind, biting wit, and passionate convictions.
His friends and family will forever miss his presence.
Deadline reports that during the last months of his life, Peacock chose to stand in solidarity with his peers on the WGA picket lines instead of receiving flowers.
As a tribute to his memory, those wishing to honor him are encouraged to contribute to the WGA Strike Fund.
Peacock notably worked on three seasons of Suits from 2012 to 2015, coinciding with the time Meghan Markle joined the cast.
Markle portrayed the ambitious and talented paralegal Rachel Zane from 2011 until her departure in 2018.
Following the news of Peacock’s passing, members of the Suits cast have come together to offer their condolences and gather donations for the late screenwriter’s family.
Gabriel Macht, Patrick J Adams, Sarah Rafferty, Gina Torres, and Abigail Spencer, who are considered pioneers in the show, are leading this initiative.
However, there seems to be tension within the Suits cast, as a source close to Gina Torres revealed that Meghan Markle has refused to visit and acknowledge Peacock’s passing.
This act has been seen as biting the hand that once helped her, as Peacock played a significant role in guiding Markle during her transition to life in Toronto, where the show was filmed.
Markle’s refusal to pay tribute to Peacock has caused a rift between her and the rest of the crew, potentially alienating her from them forever.
It is worth noting that Suits continued until 2019, but in 2017, Patrick Adams, who played one of the lead roles, chose to leave the show for another project.
With his departure, Markle’s character lost purpose, as she was primarily portrayed as his love interest or arm candy.
The producers no longer had to tolerate her wooden acting, demanding paparazzi scheduling, lifestyle blogging, or even allegations of stealing Aquazora designs.
Consequently, the decision was made to intentionally write her character out of the show.
Despite the passage of almost four years since the final episode of Suits aired, the show has found a new audience following its return to Netflix last month.
The Hollywood Reporter reveals that during the week of June 26th to July 2nd, Suits garnered an impressive 3.14 billion minutes of streaming time, surpassing the previous top contender, Manifest, which accumulated 2.4 billion minutes of watch time.
Justin Peacock’s untimely demise leaves a void in the entertainment industry.
His talent and contributions to shows like Suits will be remembered and celebrated by fans and colleagues alike.
As we reflect on his legacy, it is a reminder of the impact writers have on shaping our favorite television series and the lasting impressions they leave behind.
