Gail King, the renowned CBS morning host, expressed her solidarity with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as Prince Harry confirmed his attendance at the coronation of his father, King Charles III.
King conveyed her support while gracing the Time 100 gala held in New York City on April 26th.
During an interview with Us Weekly on the vibrant red carpet, King commended the royal couple for their choice of having Prince Harry represent them at the coronation, while Meghan remains in California caring for their children, Prince Archie and Princess Elizabeth.
In a candid statement, the 68-year-old journalist emphasized the importance of Meghan and Harry making decisions that align with their best interests.
King remarked, “I think Meghan and Harry should do what’s best for them.
Clearly, they know what’s going on in their family life and over there.”
Despite previously defending the couple in response to their Netflix docuseries, ‘Harry and Meghan,’ King reiterated that she refrains from offering unsolicited advice regarding their relationship with the royal family.
She asserted, “They don’t consult me about anything when it comes to that or any other matter.
I believe they make decisions that suit them best.”
The announcement from Buckingham Palace on April 12th confirmed Prince Harry’s participation in the coronation ceremony of King Charles and Queen Camilla at Westminster Abbey on May 6th.
However, Meghan will remain in California during the event, coinciding with their son’s fourth birthday.
The palace’s statement affirmed, “The Duke of Sussex will attend the coronation service at Westminster Abbey on 6th May, while the Duchess of Sussex will stay in California with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”
Months of speculation surrounding Prince Harry’s attendance at the ceremony followed his revelations about the royal family in his memoir, ‘Spare,’ released in January.
The couple further exposed their grievances with the royal family in their Netflix series, ‘Harry and Meghan.’
Despite these tensions, Gail King disclosed that Harry and Meghan are in a positive space.
She remarked, “You’ve seen the two of them together, and I know the happiness they share is genuine.
They are in a good place.”
In December 2022, King reiterated her support for Prince Harry and Meghan after the release of their documentary, emphasizing that it was not a mere reality show.
Besides King, other notable figures like Deepak Chopra have also weighed in on the couple’s relationship with the royal family.
Chopra expressed concerns about the ongoing struggles faced by Harry and Meghan amidst the rift, urging for privacy and less external interference.
He advised, “My advice is to ignore it.
Reacting will only escalate the situation.
If you ignore it, people can’t say anything, and eventually, they’ll stop.”
Reports had previously suggested that Prince Harry sought an apology from his father, Charles, and brother, the Prince of Wales, before committing to the ceremony.
Despite the challenges, Harry remained open to reconciliation, stating in an interview that the door for reconciliation is always ajar.
As the royal saga continues to unfold, the public’s opinions and reactions remain divided.
