Murpuri has finally broken his silence on the highly publicized bridesmaids’ dresses fiasco at Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding, admitting that he is not surprised it caused tears.
In an exclusive interview, Murpuri disclosed that although he personally witnessed nothing amiss, he and his team were forced to work tirelessly for four days leading up to the 2018 nuptials at both Kensington Palace and Windsor Castle.
The reason?
None of the six dresses made by French fashion house Givenchy fit the bridesmaids.
While Murpuri admitted that he was unaware of any behind-the-scenes drama, he acknowledged the immense pressure and stress that comes with planning a wedding, especially one of such high profile.
“Weddings are stressful at the best of times,” he stated.
“You’ve got to respect that.
They were faced with a problem like anyone gets at a wedding, with last-minute hitches.
I can understand why anyone would be upset if the dresses didn’t fit.
It’s nerve-wracking.
I feel for them because you wouldn’t want the children to go out on a big stage in an ill-fitting dress.
And that’s what was going to happen.
All six bridesmaids’ dresses had to be fixed, and we did it.”
Murpuri’s revelation seems to support Catherine’s earlier claims that the dresses needed significant alterations.
This turn of events is undoubtedly embarrassing for Givenchy, the renowned fashion house responsible for the designs.
Questions have arisen as to whether Givenchy should pursue legal action, as this incident has potentially damaged their reputation.
Additionally, speculations have emerged regarding Meghan’s role in the affair, with some suggesting that she intentionally sabotaged the process.
Critics argue that Givenchy, being a prestigious brand, would have sent their own seamstresses to take measurements for such a high-profile event.
However, it appears that Meghan may have altered the measurements without consulting anyone, possibly aiming for a looser, less fitted look.
When the dresses returned too big, she allegedly chose not to inform Givenchy, wanting to retain complete control over the process.
Instead, she hired AJ, an independent tailor, who would be more likely to follow her instructions without question.
While this theory may seem unconventional, it aligns with Meghan’s reputation for defying fashion norms and acting independently.
It also explains why Givenchy did not send their own tailors and why the final dresses still appeared peculiar, despite AJ’s expertise as a luxury tailor.
It is believed that Meghan’s personal design choices, including the boxy plaits and uneven hem, contributed to the unconventional appearance of the dresses.
Royal fans have expressed skepticism about the entire situation, with some even suggesting that Meghan deliberately orchestrated the ill-fitting dresses to undermine Catherine.
One fan stated, “Something is really off here.
I think the whole thing was on purpose, so Charlotte would end up with an ill-fitting dress.
Or even better, didn’t want to be a bridesmaid because she didn’t like a dress.
She laid out the trap, and Catherine fell into it.
Mission accomplished.”
It remains to be seen whether Givenchy will provide further clarification on the matter.
However, with Murpuri’s revelations, it seems inevitable that the true story behind the bridesmaids’ dresses will eventually come to light.
