The Buckingham Palace website has recently updated its line of succession, revealing that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children, Archie III and Lilibet I, do not hold the titles of Prince and Princess.
The previous report by the Post stated that the children would be entitled to the titles upon the accession of their grandfather, King Charles III.
However, no final decision has been made regarding this matter.
The entitlement to the titles stems from rules established by King George V in 1917.
According to these rules, grandchildren of a sovereign can style themselves as Her Royal Highness and use the title Prince or Princess.
However, great-grandchildren are not included in this rule.
An exception was made in 2013 when Prince George, the first child of Prince William and Kate Middleton, was born.
All of their children were allowed to be styled as Prince or Princess.
On the royal website, the titles of other senior royals, such as Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, have already been changed to reflect their new titles.
Prince William has inherited his father’s title and is now known as the Prince of Wales.
Kate has become the Princess of Wales, following in the footsteps of Princess Diana.
However, Archie and Lily, the children of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, remain without titles on the royal website.
They are referred to as Master and Miss, despite technically being a Prince and a Princess since their grandfather has become King.
A spokesperson explained that while the website has not been updated, it does not mean that Prince Charles does not love his grandchildren.
The website will be updated as and when new information becomes available.
When asked about the possibility of Archie and Lily being given the titles of Prince and Princess, the spokesperson stated that the focus at the moment is on the next 10 days.
Any updates regarding titles will be made on the website as information is received.
In 2021, there were suggestions that Charles might limit the number of key roles when he becomes monarch to prevent Archie from becoming a Prince.
However, such a move would likely damage his relationship with the Sussexes.
