A recent poll reveals that a significant number of Americans strongly support King Charles’ decision to expel Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from their UK house.
The move, initiated by King Charles, required the couple to vacate their home in Frogmore Cottage, located on the grounds of Windsor Castle, before his coronation on May 6.
The eviction process began shortly after the release of Harry’s tell-all memoir, Spare, which further strained relations between the Sussexes and the royal household.
According to a new survey conducted by Redfield & Wilton for Newsweek, 41% of Americans support the King’s decision, while 23% oppose it.
Another 19% of respondents were unsure, and 17% stated that they didn’t care.
These results indicate significant support for the eviction among Americans.
Initially, the Sussexes had planned to use Frogmore Cottage as their primary residence after leaving Britain and relinquishing their royal duties.
However, the eviction has dealt a severe blow to their plans.
On March 1, the couple confirmed the request to vacate, and sources suggest that this move is part of King Charles’ broader strategy to improve the management of royal finances.
According to insider information shared by The Evening Standard’s Robert Johnson, Vice Admiral Sir Tony Johnston-Burt and Sir Michael Stevens, the keeper of the privacy purse, are overseeing the search for savings.
The source further revealed that the properties will be leased at commercial rates and offered to individuals outside the royal family.
It was also emphasized that unless the royals pay the market rate, they will be prohibited from using these properties as London residences.
The eviction of the Sussexes from Frogmore Cottage is just the beginning of a larger plan to streamline the monarchy.
King Charles has been open about his intentions, which reportedly include relocating his younger brother, Prince Andrew, and his wife, Sarah Ferguson, from the $30 million Windsor home, Royal Lodge.
While the King is not keen on leaving his brother homeless and penniless, Prince Andrew is allegedly resisting the request to move into Frogmore Cottage.
It is worth noting that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex invested several million pounds in renovating Frogmore Cottage in recent years.
In September 2020, the couple announced that they had repaid £2.4 million of British taxpayers’ money that was used for the home’s renovations when they were working members of the royal family.
The eviction of the Sussexes from Frogmore Cottage has sparked significant debate and speculation about the future of the monarchy.
While almost half of Americans express their support for the move, it remains to be seen how the wider public, particularly in the UK, will react.
As King Charles’ plans for a more streamlined monarchy continue to unfold, it is likely that further developments and controversies will arise.
