Selena Gomez Turns Down Meghan’s Cooking Show Invitation
Selena Gomez has firmly declined an offer to appear as a guest star on Meghan Markle’s upcoming cooking show.
On April 11th, Deadline revealed that Archwell Productions has given the green light to two Netflix series focusing on the personal interests of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.
Markle’s project will delve into the pleasures of cooking, gardening, entertaining, and friendship, with her taking on the role of executive producer.
The second series, still in its early stages, will showcase professional polo, a sport close to Prince Harry’s heart.
It seems like a reality show centered around polo matches is in the works.
Meghan might be envisioning herself in a scenario reminiscent of Julia Roberts in “Pretty Woman” during a polo game.
This announcement follows Meghan Markle’s recent revelation about a mysterious lifestyle brand called American Riviera Orchard, speculated to be a revamped version of her former blog, The Tig.
Rumors suggest that the brand might include a makeup line, given cosmetics were mentioned in recent trademark filings.
Netflix previously invested £3 million in the rights to a book for Meghan, which was ultimately shelved.
Instead, the streaming giant funded a kitchen renovation at the Olive Garden, akin to Spotify and The Home Studio, allowing Meghan to occasionally whip up dishes prepared by others.
According to Deadline, Markle has enlisted showrunner Leah Harriton, known for her work on Selena Gomez’s HBO cooking series, Selena & Chef.
Meghan’s team expressed interest in having Gomez as a guest star on the new show, citing their shared background in acting, love for cooking, and advocacy for mental health awareness.
Despite Meghan’s team reaching out to Selena Gomez through Harriton, Gomez’s assistant dismissed the idea, stating that Selena had already explored the culinary world and was content learning from renowned chefs.
The assistant emphasized Gomez’s humility regarding her cooking skills, highlighting her previous involvement in judging a children’s cooking competition.
It was implied that Gomez saw no need to engage in Meghan’s project, viewing her own successful ventures as sufficient.
The production logistics, including securing funding, assembling a crew, scouting locations, and overall operational responsibilities, will be handled by the Intellectual Property Corporation for Meghan’s series and Boardwalk Pictures for Harry’s project.
While both the Sussexes will serve as executive producers, it raises questions as to why Meghan holds that title for Harry’s series while he does not reciprocate for hers, suggesting their roles may primarily involve hosting duties.
Critics have questioned the appeal of watching Meghan navigate the world of entertainment and socializing, especially in the context of polo, a niche interest for many.
The delayed launch of these series has sparked curiosity about the sudden push to bring them to fruition now.
Skeptics argue that the public’s interest in such content remains limited, with doubts arising about the authenticity and relatability of the Sussexes’ ventures.
Despite the skepticism, the promise of new content from the royal couple has been made, signaling their commitment to their respective projects.
